CHAPTER 2

Y/n pov

I walked through the crowded university hallway, scanning the faces of the students around me. The noise was overwhelming, something I despised. Sighing, I continued my search for the specific person I needed to find.

"Where are you?" I whispered to myself, pouting in frustration. Just as I was about to turn towards the lecture hall, someone grabbed my bag from behind, startling me and causing a small scream to escape my lips.

I spun around, glaring at the culprit, who was now laughing so hard she clutched her stomach. Her other hand still held my bag.

"Hahaha... you scaredy-cat!" she teased, making me roll my eyes. My glare remained fixed on her.

"Very funny. Now give me my bag," I demanded, forcefully taking it back from her grip.

"Okay, okay... sorry for scaring my little Y/N," she said, grabbing my hand and making me laugh despite myself.

This was Yunhee, my best friend. She was the only person I could truly rely on at this university, the one I shared everything with. She had been my rock through all the ups and downs, more like a sister than a friend.

"I've been looking everywhere for you. Where were you?" I asked. She gave me a sheepish smile, a blush creeping onto her cheeks, and I instantly knew what had happened. Chuckling, I playfully messed up her hair, earning an annoyed glare in return.

"You were with Jiyoo, weren't you?" I smirked, watching her face turn even redder.

"Shut up," Yunhee mumbled, nudging me with her elbow. "You're so annoying."

"Oh, Yunhee, you hopeless romantic," I laughed, giving her a playful shove. "But seriously, what happened? Did he finally confess?"

She bit her lip, trying to suppress a smile. "Well, not exactly, but we did spend the entire break together. He bought me coffee and we just... talked."

"Aww, that's so sweet!" I exclaimed, clutching my chest dramatically. "Our little Yunhee is growing up."

"Stop it," she giggled, swatting at me. "You're embarrassing me."

We started walking towards our next lecture, our pace quickening as we continued to tease each other. The hallway was still crowded, and we had to dodge and weave through groups of students, our laughter trailing behind us.

"Did he at least hold your hand?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Yunhee's blush deepened. "Maybe."

"That's a yes!" I shouted, making a few heads turn. Yunhee covered her face with her hands, but I could see the smile peeking through.

"You're impossible," she said, shaking her head. "But yes, he did. It was nice."

"See? I told you he liked you," I said, feeling a surge of happiness for my friend. "I can't wait to see where this goes."

As we reached the classroom, the bell rang, and we hurried inside, still laughing and whispering to each other.

"Okay, spill. What else did you two talk about?" I asked, taking our usual seats in the back.

"Just... stuff. Classes, hobbies, dreams," Yunhee said, her eyes sparkling. "He's so easy to talk to."

"I'm so happy for you, Yunhee," I said, giving her a quick hug before the professor walked in.

"Thanks, y/n. You're the best," she whispered, squeezing my hand.

The lecture started, but our minds were still buzzing with the excitement of the moment. We exchanged knowing glances and smiles, silently promising each other that there would be more stories to share and more moments to cherish.

We walked toward the cafeteria to have lunch. Yunhee and I grabbed trays and selected some ramen, kimchi, and a pack of chocolate milk. We made our way to an empty seat and settled down.

I noticed Yunhee staring intently at the entrance of the cafeteria. "What's the problem?" I asked, gripping my chopsticks.

She shook her head, but her eyes didn't move. Suddenly, her face lit up with a beautiful smile. Curious, I followed her gaze and saw Jiyoo walking into the cafeteria. He headed straight for us and sat beside Yunhee, who was now blushing furiously.

Huh, love really does make people act all blushy-blushy, I thought.

Jiyoo smiled at me, and I returned it gladly. "Hi, I'm Jiyoo. Yunhee's new boyfriend," he introduced himself.

I smiled back and introduced myself. "Nice to meet you, Jiyoo. I'm Y/N."

He seemed like a genuinely nice person, which was a relief. I looked at Yunhee, who was chatting and chuckling with him, their chemistry undeniable. Watching them together brought a smile to my face. With a sigh, I turned my attention back to my food and began to eat.

"So, Jiyoo, what do you like about Yunhee?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

He glanced at Yunhee, his eyes softening. "I love how kind and thoughtful she is. She has this way of making everyone around her feel special."

Yunhee blushed even more, playfully nudging him. "Stop it, you're embarrassing me!"

I chuckled. "It's sweet. You two are adorable together."

They both laughed, and Yunhee took a sip of her milkshake. "Jiyoo, y/n is my best friend. She's the one who keeps me sane through all the craziness."

Jiyoo nodded. "I've heard a lot about you. Yunhee talks about you all the time."

I grinned. "All good things, I hope."

"Absolutely," he replied with a smile.

As they continued to chat, I couldn't help but feel a warm sense of happiness for Yunhee. She truly deserved someone who appreciated her for all the wonderful things she was.

"Hmm... y/nah. Today I can't come with you. He asked me to go out with him. Can I?" Yunhee asked, her eyes pleading for my permission. I chuckled and looked at her with affection.

"Hey, silly. It's okay. You can go. After all, he's your boyfriend, and you two should spend some time together," I said, my words bringing a genuine smile to her face. I then turned my gaze to Jiyoo.

"You better take good care of her," I said, my voice serious. He nodded vigorously, gripping Yunhee's hand tighter.

"Of course, I will," he replied, his voice filled with sincerity.

Yunhee turned to me again, her expression thoughtful. "Hmm... y/nie, what about you?"

"Oh, the finals are coming up. After university, I'll head to the library. I have assignments to finish," I said, already planning my evening in my mind.

She nodded and sighed, her head turning back to Jiyoo. They resumed their chitchat, their laughter and whispers filling the air.

Y/N wandered through the library, searching for the books she needed for her assignment. The sheer number of books required her to visit different sections, which only added to her frustration. She sighed deeply and walked towards the last bookshelf, hoping to find the final book on her list.

"Where is it? Ugh," she muttered, her face showing her annoyance as she scanned the shelves.

After what felt like hours, her eyes finally landed on the book she had been searching for. She let out a heavy sigh of relief and reached for it. Just as she was about to head back to her seat, a book lying on the floor caught her attention.

"Why can't these students put books back properly after using them? So mannerless," she whispered to herself, bending down to pick up the misplaced book. The title of the book piqued her curiosity.

She furrowed her brow and read the title aloud,

"Vampire Diaries."

Flipping through the book with a disinterested look, she scoffed as she skimmed the pages. "Eww, who reads this kind of thing? Like vampires are really alive. Bullshit." Y/N wasn't the type to believe in such fantasies. She decided to put the book back on the shelf and return to her work.

She placed the books she needed on the table and took a seat. Before starting her study session, she pulled her phone from her hoodie pocket and unlocked it. The wallpaper brought a smile to her face-a picture of her and her dad.

"I should let him know I'm here. Otherwise, he'll worry," she thought, quickly typing a message to her dad to let him know she was safe. She then set the phone aside and focused on her assignment.

The library was quiet, the only sounds being the faint rustling of pages and the distant hum of the air conditioning. Y/N's concentration deepened, her mind diving into the intricate details of her project.

After three hours of working on her assignment without taking a break, Y/N felt exhaustion setting in. She took a deep breath and reached for her phone to check the time.

When she saw the time, her eyes widened. "Shit, it's 9:00 p.m. I should go now," she whispered loudly, panic edging her voice.

Hastily, she began arranging her books and papers, shoving them into her bag with hurried movements.

As she did so, her hand touched something sticky and oily, causing her to furrow her brow. She opened her bag wide, and what she saw made her grimace in disgust.

Snack packets and chips had spilled inside.

"Yunhee, you clumsy girl. Does she think my bag is a dustbin or something?" she muttered, shaking her head and silently cursing her friend. This wasn't the first time Yunhee had done something like this, making Y/N mad. But no matter how annoyed she got, she could never stay angry with her best friend for long. Still, she often scolded Yunhee, urging her to be less clumsy and act more mature.

She picked up the dirty packets, her face twisted in annoyance, and walked out of the library.

Sighing, she headed towards the nearest trash bin to dispose of the mess. The darkness made it difficult to see, so she pulled out her phone and turned on the flashlight. She navigated her way to the trash bin and threw the trash away, slamming the lid shut with a loud thud.

She was about to leave when she heard some noises in the distance, causing her to stop in her tracks. Curiosity furrowing her brow, she slowly turned her head toward the sound.

She saw a shadow in the distance, and fear clenched at her heart. The shadow began to move toward her, making her gulp in terror. As it came closer, she saw that the figure's eyes glowed a haunting red, causing her breathing to grow rapid and shallow.

Her legs felt like jelly, unable to move. The shadow drew nearer, its eyes piercing through the darkness, fixed on her with an unsettling intensity. Her body trembled uncontrollably, paralyzed by fear.

"Save me, my vixen,"

A deep, husky voice cut through the silence, filled with pain. The voice echoed around her, making her eyes widen in confusion. She wasn't sure if the shadow had actually spoken or if her mind was playing tricks on her.

Before she could react, the shadow vanished into thin air. She blinked rapidly, trying to shake off the lingering terror. With her heart racing, she looked around frantically to ensure the shadow was gone.

Without a second thought, she sprinted away, her breath coming in panicked gasps. She wished desperately that this was all just a dream. But deep down, she knew it wasn't-this was no mere nightmare. This was her destiny unfolding.
